5 Easy ways to create an engaging e-learning course

Whether you're a teacher, a university professor, an independent instructional designer, or you have any interest in online learning, you must never forget the golden rule of online courses: before starting to create one, you need to know everything about your audience. Well, your audience gets bored easily, no matter how old they are. That's why every online course you create needs some hooks to get their attention and keep if for enough time that they actually learn something. So check out the following 5 tips on how to create engaging online courses:

  1. Make the content relevant to students

Put your students’ learning needs at the base of each lesson. The purpose of a course should be to provide students with relevant content that is packed with useful information, it's easy to understand, and helps them reach their learning goals.

  2. Make the content visually appealing

An e-learning course should include a variety of elements that make it more visually appealing and keeps the students engaged. Make sure that the content is easy to follow and includes resources such as pictures, videos, and other multimedia files.

  3. Use gamification

No matter how serious the subject of a course is, don’t be afraid to gamify it. Students enjoy gamified elements such as leaderboards, earning points, and badges because they make the learning experience more enjoyable and drive participation.

  4. Allow students to collaborate

It's important for students to talk with each other about they learn, exchange resources, and collaborate on projects. That's why class tools such as groups, online chat rooms, forums, blogs, and wikis are a great way for them to connect.

  5. Use storytelling to captivate students

Stories make anything more interesting and intriguing, so instead of plainly state an idea, try to weave in some storytelling. For students it's easier to remember the concepts they learn if they are wrapped up in inspirational stories.
